A few weeks ago, to reward myself after reaching a professional milestone, I placed a massive book order from Slightly Foxed. And now it has arrived!
Here are my new arrivals:
The Flame Trees of Thika by Elspeth Huxley
A Late Education by Alan Moorehead
My Grandfather and Father, Dear Father by Denis Constanduros
I Was a Stranger by John Hackett (I read a library copy of this in October and am so happy to be adding it to my collection now)
Basil Street Blues by Michael Holyrod
84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff
Brensham Village by John Moore
And, of course, I have pre-ordered a copy of Terms and Conditions by Ysenda Maxtone Graham, which is being released today.
Lots of happy reading ahead of me!

My ever-expanding Slightly Foxed collection
Oh, look at your lovely, lovely books. Much good reading ahead. Slightly Foxed is the *best* for republishing so many excellent memoirs.
Congratulations, in every sense of the word, on your personal milestone and your clever way of celebrating it!
Thanks! And yes, SF are the absolute best for their flawless taste in memoirs. I’m not sure there is any publisher I trust as much.
OMGosh, I remember seeing The Flame Trees of Thika way back in the early 80’s when it was a BBC production on Masterpiece Theatre. It was wonderful and I imagine the book is, too.
I know I’ve seen the miniseries but I only have vague memories of it. Really looking forward to the book!
How beautiful! If I was younger, richer and had more space I would most definitely want a complete set of SF!
Space is definitely starting to become an issue. I’m pretty strict in my purchasing habits but SF editions are one thing I will splurge on (and, to be honest, in the grand scheme of things this wasn’t that big a splurge). Secret joy of this particular order: I had the best exchange rate of my life (from GBP to CAD) when ordering. So, so much better than the days when the rate was 2.2:1 (which, cruelly, was when I was studying in the UK).
What is this gorgeousness?? I need to check out Slightly Foxed!
You very much do!
Such a wonderful collection! You can always trust Slightly Foxed.
You really can. They are entirely trust-worthy.
Oh my! What a wonderful collection. They look beautiful together.
Don’t they? And they are such a delight to hold as well – so beautifully put together.
Wonderful! Many MANY moons ago, the first book group I was in read The Flame Trees of Thika. I loved that book and we had a very lively discussion of it. I re-read 34 Chairing Cross Road just about every winter. I should honor it with one Slightly Foxed. 🙂
Oh, I’ve just thought how wonderful a Slightly Foxed-focused bookclub would be. Amazing.
I must admit to already having a paperback copy of 84, Charing Cross Road but I couldn’t resist adding this lovely edition to my collection (I did the same thing a month or two ago with My Family and Other Animals, another SF edition).
That would be a fabulous book club. I have hard cover/paperback duos myself, Claire, and love those Slightly Foxed covers.
What a wise and lovely investment!
Thank you! I couldn’t agree more.
Thanks so much for leading me to Slightly Foxed. Today I ordered a two-year subscription, acknowledging I discovered them through your blog.
Wonderful! I’m so happy to have made the introduction and I know you’ll love your subscription!
