May I make a recommendation for 1930? “Cakes and Ale” by Somerset Maugham. I run a book group (in Manhattan), and we recently read this one. Very charming and catty and also tells much about the writer’s life. And not too long. I look forward to trying some of the books you have listed. I came across your site yesterday when looking for an image for my own blog.
