Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Sharlene from Real Life Reading that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.
Last Call at the Hotel Imperial by Deborah Cohen – a wonderful-looking group biography of wartime journalists. I was enticed by excellent reviews from Kirkus and the Financial Times.
Trespasses by Louise Kennedy – I’m very excited about this much-praised novel set in Northern Ireland during the 1970s.
Endurance by Rick Broadbent – I am not the natural audience for sports biographies but every so often one finds its way into my library bag (though none since For the Glory, so it’s been a while). There were a flurry of books about Zátopek, the Czech runner who won multiple gold medals at the 1952 Olympics, a few years ago and then a biopic more recently so I’m finally catching up.
What did you pick up this week?
I’m looking forward to Trespasses as well, very excited for the upcoming annual ReadingIreland gathering at Cathy746books in February, I’m also looking forward to reading one if my favourite authors, Sara Baume’s new book from last year Seven Steeples.
Ooo, if only I’d timed my library hold better. But perhaps a review can wait until February…
Yes, that’s the only thing about being a mood reader, sometimes we don’t want to hold off and wait, but we can always postpone the review, that’s true. It is fun to participate in the Feb Reading Ireland, it’ll add to what you look out for in the library for sure!
I’m reading Fellowship Point by Alice Elliott Dark—lovely prose about women and their friendships but not what the book flap indicated the story would be, which was saving the land from development.
My mother is reading that right now and absolutely loving it.
Just got to the end—all the endless prose and character side stories are wrapped up—but it took so long to get there! The reviews seem to be either a 1 or a 5. I will probably go for a 4.
I really like the first two books. A sports book not
My thing. Thanks for the heads up.
Glad to have added to your TBR list 😉
I was going to read Trespasses for Reading Ireland too but maybe I will find something else!
Last Call at the Hotel Imperial looks intriguing. I am adding that to my TBR.

Trespasses looks great, doesn’t it? I’m not sure I’ll participate in Reading Ireland (I only heard of it after I posted this and rarely participate in reading challenges) so please don’t let that dissuade you from reading it!
