Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Sharlene from Real Life Reading that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.
I’m in obsessive travel research mode. Can you guess where I’m planning to go next year?
Where else would you travel too. We say we live in God’s Own Country! An aficionado of Essie Summers must visit Christchurch and although I will probably have my citizenship revoked I think the South Island has the best scenery and trekking. All the best.
It all looks so wonderful! I have friends on both the North Island and the South Island so good excuses to make a thorough tour (though I definitely plan to spend most of my time on the South Island). It’s amazing how much some of it looks like British Columbia – after reading so much by Essie Summers, I finally started looking up pictures of Central Otago only to discover it looks shockingly like the fruit-growing, wine-producing, lake- and mountain-dotted Okanagan region of BC.
How wonderful! I was there in 2011 and loved it. Keri Hulme’s The Bone People is harrowing but so good. Have a great trip!
Thanks for the recommendation!
I’m tempted to go with you! I did meet someone once (unfortunately, I have forgotten her name and email) who was such an Essie fan that she went to New Zealand and married someone she met there, brought him back to California. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had created an Essie Summers tour. You really need at least two weeks to travel that far.
What a souvenir!
Is there room in your suitcase for me please? I’d love a return visit – the scenery is just stunning and the people are wonderful. One thing that was a shock was how early restaurants close. I thought NZealanders would be very jovial, party people ready to relax over a beer or two but even in big tourist places like Rotoroa they closed about 9.30 and in Aukland we were told that 8pm was very late to make a restaurant booking
This just reiterates all I’ve been told about New Zealand being very much like Canada!
But with much better coffee 🙂
I would love to go to New Zealand. Might need to wait until my son is older though as it is quite a way from the UK!
Have a great weekend!

My post:
That is a daunting flight no matter your age! From here, it’s a direct flight and only 14 hours – less time than it would take me with connecting flights to get to most of southern Europe.
Yes, I would worry about it. I have been in a car for 8 hours and I think that’s the longest travelling time. I am in the UK so I assume I would have to change flights.
