Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Sharlene from Real Life Reading that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.
Wanderers by Kerri Andrews – Kate wrote a wonderful review of this early in the year and I immediately suggested it as a purchase to my library. Finally, it has arrived!
In the Kitchen – another collection of themed essays from Daunt (alongside the very enjoyable At the Pond and In the Garden)
Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce – my mother just finished this and loved it so I have high hopes
The 1976 Club is running next week (from the 11th to the 17th) and I’m already getting started on my reading:
My Country by Pierre Berton
How Did I Get to Be Forty and Other Atrocities by Judith Viorst
Julian Grenfell by Nicholas Mosley
Travels by Jan Morris
What did you pick up this week?
I’m impressed that your library system pays note of requests. Anything I put on the online library system as a suggestion simply gets ignored
My library is amazing at taking requests. So far this year, they’ve bought 38 of the titles I’ve suggested. That’s about 2/3rds of my total suggestions and the others are a) a bit obscure or b) not yet out in North America (though sometimes they buy from overseas anyways). I’m very lucky!
My Country looks promising. Happy reading!
Berton’s books are always fun so I’m looking forward to this!
I’ll be interested to see what you think of Wanderers. I bought it after reading Kate’s review and enjoyed it although parts of it read like a doctoral dissertation. It’s mind-boggling, and inspiring, to think of how many miles some of these famous walkers traveled each day.
I’m intrigued to start it!
I read Miss Benson’sBeetle earlier this year and found it to be super weird. Not bad weird. But nothing I’ve recommended since. Will be interested to hear what you think!!
I grabbed the audiobook, Five Little Indians and already listened to it. It is a wonderful book, but very sad and thought provoking.
