   Sad, but worse was my visit to a historic site in Massachusetts. I entered the library/conference room eager to explore the contents. All four walls were filled with bookcases holding what appeared to be hundreds of books. When I reached for a particular one, I discovered that the spine had been spliced away and was glued to the wall to appear to be a book. The shelves themselves were only 2 inches deep.

     That is truly horrifying. Hopefully future caretakers will reconsider that approach!
