Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Sharlene from Real Life Reading that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.
It is finally time to start sharing some of the things I stocked up on before the libraries closed. Today, I present you with my foreign DVD collection, encompassing 7 different languages: Turkish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Czech, and Arabic. Of the five French films, I’ve seen four of them before and Brunetti is an old friend (and the source of much German vocab never covered in my university courses) but the rest are new to me.
What did you check out online this week? Or what old treats are you holding on to from before the libraries closed?
I liked the Brunettis. I think they got the characters right, and the atmosphere. It’s just distracting to hear them speaking German when they should be speaking Italian (even though I can’t understand either).
I returned Natasha Pulley’s new book the day before the libraries closed, regretting I wouldn’t have time to read it before it was due (and unrenewable due to demand). Oh, well … I’m grateful for my large stack of owned and unread books.
My favourite part of the Brunettis is when they suddenly thrown in Italian words (carabinieri, etc) amidst the usual German.
A wonderful selection. Amelie is the only one I’ve seen.
Given your enthusiasm for travel, you might enjoy the Brunetti series which is all filmed in Venice (and shows you all sides to the city). I also really love Fanny’s Journey, which is set during WWII and is about a group of Jewish children trying to escape – eventually on foot – through the mountains to Switzerland. The scenery is stunning and it’s based on a true story.
That certainly lines up with my reading interests. Thanks
Thanks for the wonderful list. I will check our library’s international DVD section (when they open again!).
The longer this lasts, the longer my own library list gets!
