Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Linda from Silly Little Mischief that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.
I’m feeling poorly right now, which has made it difficult to focus on reading for the past few days (or anything, for that matter). Hopefully, I should be through this bout in the next day or two and able to concentrate on the excellent books I’ve picked up recently from the library:
Shanghai Grand by Taras Grescoe
The Only Street in Paris by Elaine Sciolino
Frederick the Great by Tim Blanning
In Europe’s Shadow by Robert D. Kaplan
So much Elizabeth Cadell! All inter-library loans. I’ve never read anything by her so we’ll see how these go. I only have the GoodReads summaries to go on but from those alone they look like delightful light reading – no wonder so many D.E. Stevenson fans have recommended Cadell to me.
What did you pick up this week?
Just learned of an Historical Fiction Romance series by Ginny Dye..focus is the War Between the States..9 volumes.. I have volume 1..SROEM CLOUDS GATHERING on hold at the Library. Justbpicked up THE WRIGHT BROTHERS by David McCullough for a book club discussion…

Sounds like lots of interesting reading for you! Enjoy.
Take care! Enjoy your loot.
Thanks, Linda!
I’d be very happy with your loot… I read several of EC’s books back in the days when I was better at browsing the stacks, and I’d like to read her again. And I have The Only Street in Paris on tap for Paris in July!
I’ve already finished The Friendly Air and quite enjoyed it. Very light, very lovely and just the right thing for someone with a fuzzy head. Look forward to reading more of her work.
I finished the Friendly Air last week and enjoyed it so much! I had never heard of her until a friend on goodreads reviewed one of her books and now I am a huge fan. Read through The Yellow Brick Road in a day a couple of days ago when I was slightly ill. Thankfully, my library has a good many of her books, but I can definitely see myself going to great lengths to find the ones that are missing. Hope you feel much better soon!
She seems to be the ideal producer of books suitable for the sickbed. I read The Friendly Air while home sick and it was lovely. Really looking forward to the other two (and I’ve already placed inter-library holds on a few more titles).
In Europe’s Shadow and Shanghai Grand look quite promising!!
Don’t they? I’m excited. And Grescoe is a favourite of mine, which makes me particularly eager about Shanghai Grand.
Sometimes it’s fun to grab a bunch of books from an author and immerse into their world. I hope you have fun with Cadell!
So much fun! I’ve read two of them now and they are just the kind of fluffy books I need right now.
Cadell’s books are all being reissued on kindle now
Thanks, Meena. I’ve seen a handful available so far and look forward to more being released.
