Oooooooo! Fireplace, matching wall covering and fabric with big, blowsy flowers, fainting couch, and, of course, the wall we can’t see is completely covered with bookshelves. Just add a fluffy dog rug in front of the fire, and it’s perfect. Thanks for several minutes of delightful fantasy.
I love this one! A perfect morning room from which to plan the day. 🙂
In other news, I’m loving Angela Thirkell, thanks to you. Just finished Wild Strawberries, after having read the two preceding it, and looking forward to more.
No, this is far too ‘busy’, it’s very over-blown Laura Ashley early-1980s blowsy, décor and this went out of fashion – thank goodness – in the late-1990s and, hopefully, will not return. It’s not even country house chic in the style of John Fowler or Nancy Lancaster. But it has a lovely fireplace and there are some good architectural details. With the wallpaper ripped off and something plain on the walls and perhaps a rather nice check or chinoiserie fabric on the chairs I think it would look much better – or reverse that treatment and have chinoiserie on the walls and plain fabric on the chairs … I’d love to get my hands on this room and give it an elegant make-over!
Wow, that’s a lot of flowers. I agree with Margaret, I’d rip off the wallpaper and recover the chairs — but I’d paint the walls because I hate wallpaper, and keep prints or stripes on one chair. I love the idea of chinoiserie fabric, or maybe toile. Blue and white, definitely!
Yay! Fireplace! That’s what I need right now 🙂
You did make a special request a couple of weeks ago, so I posted this one with you in mind. Glad you like. 🙂
Aww! Thank you!

Most excellent!
It certainly looks comfortable, but a bit too floral for me.

That’s wonderful news, Susan! I am always so happy when other readers discover (and like) Thirkell.
Perfect.

This is it!
Goodness — it’s a bit busy for me with all the florals, but the fireplace is definitely a winner.

That is good heavens a LOT of flowers for one room!

Oh, and it needs a dog in front of that nice fireplace. A golden retriever. Or a Newfoundland!
