A bit too English country house for me — don’t like the chairs — and the whole thing looks as if an interior designer did it. I can’t imagine feeling comfortable curled up with a book in there!
Yes, it’s too much for me, too. Take out the mirror, and reupholster the furniture in sage green solids, and perhaps another light color. Maybe leave two armchairs in the floral prints; that’s it.
It doesn’t look like a place to relax with a good book, I’d be too worried about spilling my cup of tea. The chairs look comfortable actually but I would prefer a different fabric.
Love it, love it, love it … everything about it, but mainly lightness and symmetry. Symmetry matters to me. I love to see things placed accurately, can’t bear pictures which are crooked, ruckles in rugs, untidy piles of magazines. And here everything looks just right, and I love the Oriental fabric for the upholstery which compliments the overmantel mirror. A lovely room for afternoon tea – I’d soon sweep away the books on the glass table and set it with tiered cake stands with tiny sandwiches, delicious scones and individual cakes and pastries. A lovely, exceedingly feminine room.
I would redecorate, but I like the symmetry of the room. (BTW, I’m about halfway into High Rising and loving it! Why did I wait so long to pick up my first Thirkell?!? 🙂 )
I adore the idea of this room and I love the print on the chairs. However, I think I agree with some of the others who’ve mentioned that it might be an uncomfortable place to kick off your shoes and read.

Not enough books!
