It is cruelly, unusually hot for Vancouver this week (and next week, accordingly to the weather forecast) and I wish I had a daybed like this one to collapse on to at the end of the day, with books close to hand, as I dream of cooler climes.
The daybed is nice, but the shelves a bit plain and functional for my liking. Sorry you are suffering in the heat!
I like the solidity of that corner, much better than a library ladder for standing to reach those shelves! It almost looks like a stairway going up behind the wall.
I’m trying to think of cooling books – we may hit our first 100-degree day this coming week.
I can’t quite work out whether there is a staircase there, but if so, how do you get to it? Up and over the corner area? The day bed looks nice (I’d call that a sofa, even though it doesn’t have upholstered ‘arms’, rather than a day bed, which to me looks more like bed than this, and without any ‘arms’) but most of all I love that tiny chair, either ornamental or for child.
Welcome to my world, Claire! Reading is about the only activity I can do right now without suffering heat stroke. I love this room. I like the simplicity.
Oh God, I sympathize so much. In the heat there’s nothing to be done that’s any good. I can’t bear lying on daybeds when it’s hot, even — the touch of the fabric feels unbearable. I hope y’all’s weather cools off soon.
We’re below normal here in Ontario; the weather has been more England than Canada…well, at least during this summer. Send some sunshine and heat our way, Claire!
…and if a maid should magically appear with something icy while I was lounging on that daybed with a novel, I wouldn’t turn it down. Although I have to wonder if your hot is my hot. As I write this, my elbows are sticking to the table. Ugh.
I love the way those shelves are built. It’s a perfect layout for a little section of wall.
Lovely room for beating the heat. We have had some humid weather here lately which is very unusual for us. You have my sympathy.
we seldom, here in the UK, have it very hot, but we’ve been ‘promised’ about 30C this week, but i’ll believe it when I feel it!
One thought re this and the heat of fabrics, why not pop a cotton sheet in a polythene bag and pop that in the fridge for a while and then spread it on a sofa or day bed, that would be nice and cool – even for a short time – to sit/lie on? Anyway, just a thought …
