I came across such a sensible piece of advice in a book last weekend that it had to be shared. I’m not in need of this cure right now but goodness knows there will be days when I’ll need it:
“Hot chocolate”, I declared to the room, standing up.
“Huh?” Caroline dragged her head up to look at me.
“And a hot water bottle,” I finished dramatically.
“But it’s not cold.”
“No matter. It’s just what you need. And a Maeve Binchy book.”
“A Maeve Binchy book?” She looked blankly at me.
“Yes, yes, yes. It’s the best cure there is for contrariness and angst.”
–Saving Grace by Ciara Geraghty
Certainly had moment like that. Haven’t read a Binchy for a while, but it would do. Probably would go for Agatha Christie or Jane Austen.
I quite agree. And what a pretty hot water bottle cover! Do you knit?
I would agree with the first two, but not the choice of book.
That picture just exudes cosy comfort…which puts me in the mood for Mr. Woodhouse and the not–too–taxing adventures of Emma 🙂
HWB is one of my favourite cure-alls. I agree about not needing to be cold to need a HWB. I crawl into bed with it or curl up on the couch with it (and a book, of course). It’s sheer comfort.
And yes, on cold nights, it can also keep me warm. When there’s an ache or pain, it’s there for me. I think an entire blog post on the joy of the HWB is in order.
VERY nice cover.
Hot chocolate most definitely! Binchy, eh. My go-to is usually Terry Pratchett who never fails to make me laugh.
Maeve Binchy is always my go-to when I need to reset my book mojo. She’s a warm hug on a cold day, sunshine peeking out from the clouds.
Perfect!
Such wisdom should be bottled and given away free on every street corner.
Perfectly cozy – I love it!
Oh how true!!
