I love this room but, despite the magnificent number of books it contains, those shelves above the day bed make me deeply uneasy. I have spent too much of my life living in an earthquake zone to ever trust hanging shelves. Still, in Paris that ought not to be a problem. And, more importantly, who would choose the day bed over the Eames chair?
I love the pops of red in the shelves. Very nice indeed….
I agree with you about feeling like the books are going to topple on you…and I’ve never lived in an earthquake-prone area!
Even before I read your comments, my instantaneous reaction on seeing the pic was uneasiness regarding the shelves above the day bed. But other than that, a lovely book area.
Yes I’d be worried about the books above the bed too. A pity, as my preferred reading position is lying down. Still, if I choose the Eames chair, I’ll be pretty well prone anyway. Nice.
Nice, but so much white….
My concern would be how to get TO the books on the top shelves.
I agree! I live in earthquake country and wouldn’t want to be under those shelves during an earthquake! But lovely just the same.
I’m less uneasy about the hanging shelves than I am unimpressed with the day bed. That seems like the least useful piece of furniture you could have in a library. You can’t lie all the way down on it if you feel like lying down to read, and you can’t sit down all cuddled up because there’s nothing supporting you on the sides. NO USE.
I love that library look with the shelves everywhere, including above the day bed. I would worry about the shelves toppling down, but since I live in a big city on the East Coast, not too much. I would be concerned, too, about how to reach the higher shelves.
But as far as day bed vs. Eames chair, I’d choose the day bed any day. To put my head and back against the big pillows with the sort-of headboard behind it would be a relief and comfortable. Then I could read all day and night.
I love the built-in shelves over the couch. I’m going to do something like that eventually. What a cozy place to read.
