Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.
I have just discovered something marvellous: I can access the Calgary library’s e-book catalogue. Finally, my inability to throw away old library cards pays off! It has so many books (like The Rosie Project) that aren’t in the Vancouver library’s e-book catalogue and, most wonderfully of all, it has a 20 book borrowing limit as opposed to 5. I leave next week for a month in Europe and, let me tell you, I will be thankful for those extra 20 books!
I’ve already read (and loved) two of this week’s library picks (The Rosie Project and Attachments) and am now happily working my way through the third:
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion – a wonderfully unique romance about a socially-inept scientist whose methodical approach to finding a wife is upset when he makes friends with a young woman called Rosie.
Attachments by Rainbow Rowell – another quirky sort of love story about an internet security officer who falls in love with one of his coworkers after intercepting and reading her emails.
Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman – because I need to read more Gaiman!
What did you pick up this week?
Ana recently recommended Anansi Boys as my next Gaiman (although I am also tempted to pick up his newest release). I hope you enjoy it!
You are visiting Europe again this year? How wonderful! Have a great time!
I’m already on the library hold list for Gaiman’s new release but, until that comes in, I thought I’d tried to work through some of his earlier books. After this, I’m planning to pick up American Gods. Frankly, they all sound great!
And yep, I’m heading back to Europe! I try to go every year.
Enjoy your trip to Europe! You will need a suit case just for your books! I have my book on hold at the library. It should be available soon. I hope.
I used to hate having to limit myself to 2 or 3 books when I travelled. Now, thanks to my ereader, I don’t have to! It makes packing so much easier!
I hope your hold comes in soon!
I’ve heard good things about Attachments. Enjoy your loot!
It is really good, Linda!
I do envy library users with a proper selection of e-books. Cornwall has a tiny selection that you can only read on the computer, and a page of links to Project Gutenberg et al. But I’m glad to see that you’re making the most of what’s on offer.
Sorry to hear that Cornwall is lagging behind with the library e-book offerings. Hopefully they’ll catch up before too long. I had been happy with the Vancouver catalogue…but I’m much happier now that I have access to many more books!
Your post reminded me that I too have access to another library’s e-book catalogue. And to my delight I find that the Singapore library lets me check out another 6 e-books (I get 5 already with the Alameda County library), and interestingly, has quite a few Canadian authors that aren’t available in the US e-book catalogue.
So thanks, and enjoy your other e-book library!
