For all the Penguin aficionados out there. I am actually not a big fan but I do love how they look altogether, especially with the different coloured spines mixed up as they are here.
Quite like the monochrome look although it’s not one I would choose. Like many a collecting habit, this is a case (I think) of collecting and not necessarily reading. But then, why not have books as art work, interior decor? A very smart room, but not one for me.
I think that’s the only minimalist-design chair I’ve ever seen that actually looked like it might also be comfortable!
Shots like this do seem to scream “books chosen for their appearance”, though…
I love the photo with the Penguin books.
I adore it. And I’m a little amazed that you are not a fan of Penguins!
I certainly prefer the books to that robot picture over the fire. Each to his/her own, of course.
The robot picture made me laugh!
So cold and stylised. And all that wasted shelf height. Not for me. Though the Penguins are lovely, of course.
Okay, I am a Penguin collector. I have 1800 of the fluffy little books and I love this photo. I also know that most Penguin collectors DO read their books but of course as there are so many of them it is hard to read them all. Thank you for sharing this. I really enjoyed it. Pam
I collect Shire Books (not heard of ’em? then have a look at the website) … they are as well known, obviously, as Penguins, but they are delightful books which take up little shelf space – I have over 250 of them, some modern, some old. And, being slender volumes, they don’t take up too much shelf space, always a bonus!
Darling room. Love the chair, the fire, the robot picture, and even the bag by the fire. I imagine the wall opposite the fire has different size books all cattywampus on bookshelves and floor. That is what the fun owner of the room looks upon from his chair.
I adore the Penguins, but the not the look/feel of the rest of the room.
Envious of the shelves full of Penguins but would not feel comfortable reading with that robot hovering over my shoulder.
I’ve enjoyed so many of these that you have posted – but am moved to comment on this one as all I can hear in my head is my partner’s voice saying “Those books would look much better if they were organised by colour!!!!”
As for the robot, it reminds me of a giant “Iron Man” that I built with a Year 2 class when I was a teacher! I loved that concoction of boxes, lights and tin foil but I don’t think I’d want a picture of him on my wall!
I like the way it looks in this room, but I don’t think I’d enjoy seeing it everyday. I didn’t notice until I saw vicki’s comment the wasted shelf height…that would be painful to lose…
You don’t like Penguins? I confess I’m rather shocked, Claire! 😉
