This is certainly not my style of library – I like a room you can spend time in, which, without much real furniture, would be difficult here – but it certainly has more than enough books! I think it could be a really lovely space once furnished.

This is certainly not my style of library – I like a room you can spend time in, which, without much real furniture, would be difficult here – but it certainly has more than enough books! I think it could be a really lovely space once furnished.
Books do furnish a room, but this isn’t the kind of ‘furniture’ I like, either! It is not in the least welcoming, even the books don’t say “read me”, do they? At least seeing this it makes me appreciate some of the lovely libraries you have featured! This is all very brown, and brown only looks nice on cows (their skin, I mean) and the trunks of trees!
Nor mine. It looks so institutional, doesn’t it? Still, all those books . . .
Well. there does seem to be some lovely natural light coming from the right side…maybe a wall of floor to ceiling windows? I bet there is a wonderful desk somewhere just waiting to find a home here among the tall shelves.
I can’t imagine snuggling up in here – feels a bit sterile.
I just finished Alberto Manguel’s “A Reading Diary
A Year of Favourite Books” wherein he refers to his anticipation of preparing to set up of his library in his new house in France (having moved from Canada). His book collection is said to be about 30,000 items. If you wish to see what it looks like his web site has many photos of it from different angels, it looks warm, inviting and quiet!
Isn’t his library amazing? I featured it last year on “Library Lust” and it remains one of my favourite libraries.
Yes isn’t it wonderful!! It brings to mind this quote with the wish that the “Library” would be Alberto’s library, and I’m sure Alberto would be so welcoming to all book lovers.
“I always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of Library,” Jorge Luis Borges
All that lovely space and light – there must be some way to make it inviting and provide ‘spend-time’ furniture. What a waste the way it is!
Oh dear. I feel like I’m in a waiting room for some professional I’m really not keen to see. And they’ve filled it up with all their text books from first year high school to last year of doctoral school.
I totally agree with you. All of those books look so inviting, and yet there is no where comfortable to read them. So much space left unused. A nice big lounge chair in a bright fun color would really make that room better!
Definitely needs a bit more in the way of furniture.
