All good things must end. I am back in Vancouver after a wonderful nine day break in Palm Desert. I have been going down to the desert regularly since I was six weeks old so it is always a joy to visit. It was a place where my extended family used to gather and I have wonderful memories of being there with members of my family who are now long gone. Arriving at the Palm Springs airport feels like coming home.
It wasn’t an exciting trip, just a very relaxing one, which is exactly what I needed. I managed to read eight books (the short days are good for something!) but not to catch up on as many of my reviews as I had intended. Why would I stay inside with the computer when it was warm and sunny outside and there was a pool right on my doorstep? In lieu of anything remotely bookish, here are some photos to give you an idea of where I was – a world away from the rain-soaked city that I have returned to!
I am especially going to miss waking up to this view each morning:
Welcome back – it sounds (and looks!) like a lovely trip. I’m impressed with eight books in nine days, but I’m also looking forward to your review of The Caravaners,
You have given me a great idea for a winter vacation. I will have to remember to pack a book for each day I am there.
Nice!
Eight books in nine days? Now that’s my idea of a vacation!
You were close! We had some good weather for your visit then. Hopefully the Coachella Valley didn’t have too much smog
Isn’t the desert divine? I’m glad you had a relaxing trip and lots of time for reading!
