I love this little home library. It is packed tight with books but still has enough room for a small desk and, best of all, a ladder (in apple green, no less). It is not a room for reading in – it’s far too small and though the lack of direct light is good for the books, it is not good for readers – but it looks like a delightful place to spend time browsing about when trying to decide what to read next.
I’m intrigued by the fact that the corner isn’t squared off. I wonder, now, about the shape of this house. Lots of room for books in this narrow little room.
Yes, I like this room, too, although it’s more of an extended cupboard than a room. An ideal area to store books, and it all looks so neat and tidy, too.
This is an excellent use of space! I would love to fill corridors with books, but I imagine the corridor would have to be very big in the first place… I, of course, would dispense with the desk 😉
I once had a choice among apartments in a building, and I was very tempted to take the one with the very long (otherwise useless) hallway because I could just see it lined with bookshelves. 🙂 The other rooms were a little small as a result, but mostly I decided that it wouldn’t have the right effect if the bookcases didn’t all match. And I would have craved a ladder. I love this little room; I even love the apple green even though it’s not a color I’m usually drawn to. And I’m with Simon – I wouldn’t have the desk in there and then there’d be room for a chaise or at least a slightly overstuffed chair.
This one is lovely. i can’t tell if there are ceiling lights, or maybe a lamp on the end of the desk that’s out of the frame. But as you say, it’s not a room for reading.
What a cozy corner. It almost looks like a repurposed closet and just beyond those doors appears to be a sunny spot for reading. As a few others have mentioned, the desk could go and be replaced with a chaise or a bench – or, more shelves.
I like everything about it. I can’t imagine actually working at the desk, but I can see my kids using it.
Throw a rug on the ground, grab a blanket & a large cushion & you’ve got a great spot if there was a window…
