I still have mixed feelings about dining rooms as libraries/libraries as dining rooms, but, regardless of what you call it, I think this is a fun, welcoming room. The bookshelves, though clearly styled (as they would be, since this is from Vogue), are comfortably full. No careful spacing here, just books and a few odds-and-ends all crammed in together. And, perhaps more importantly, through the doorway to the next room you can see another bookshelf. What greater sense of comfort can there be for a bibliophile than knowing that, even in a room where you are surrounded by books, still more await elsewhere in the house? I am also, it must be said, completely won over by the contrast of the bright pink chair cushions and the whimsical light fixture with the more traditional dining table.
I love it! I love an eclectic furniture mix, the lovely egg chairs with the old, extremely handsome highly polished table (great claw feet); here it has been done with panache! And the pink flowers in a white jug (obviously chosen for the photo) to match the chair seats. That’s an eye for detail. I also like the double doors, and the dark grey of the shelves continuing to the ceiling. The shelves would stand out more if the area above them was painted white. And isn’t that a BAFTA award on the shelf? I wonder whose home it is! Wish we could see the other rooms!
They like the ancient world – I spy a big pile of distinctive green jacketed Loeb Classical Library Greek texts. Or maybe their designer liked the colour?!
Just imagine all the interesting conversations that can take place over dinner in a room like this! Love it!
Hm. This is part fun, part traditional, and I love this libraries “attitude”.
I haven’t seen so colourful a library all my life 🙂
I love this. I’d much rather have a room papered by books than by wallpaper.
I love when bookshelves are full. I hate wasted potential.
