A small selection this week, but all equally intriguing:
The Collected Works of Kahlil Gibran
Prose, poetry, a truly stunning number of aphorisms…a wonderful book to keep by the bedside or to pick up in between other reads. I’ve read The Prophet before but am excited to discover Gibran’s other, less famous works.
Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
Finally!
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
After my recent success with Pyongyang, I’m quite eager to explore more graphic novels. This one has been on my TBR list for a while but the Orbis Terrarum challenge finally motivated me to pick it up.
Enchantment by Orson Scott Card
A fantasy novel that draws from Russian folk tales as well as my favourite fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty? I’m eagerly looking forward to reading this for the Once Upon a Time IV challenge.
I really hope you enjoy Major Pettigrew as much as I did – it is one of those books I wish I hadn’t read yet so I could read it again for the first time!!
When I first picked it up, I wanted to read it THAT VERY MOMENT. But now, because I’ve been anticipating it for so long and am so excited, I’m taunting myself, leaving it about but not picking it up. I’m hoping to read it next weekend and am very, very excited!
Even if you end up not enjoying Persepolis, definitely try her other book Embroideries! 🙂
Thanks for the recommendation Eva! I’m only just starting to become interested in graphic novels, so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I hope you like Persepolis as much as I did, and I would second Eva’s recommendation of Embroideries. Very funny and sweet and poignant.
